Drink your milk, then you can have more cheese on your broccoli?

The whole vitamin D craze is still among us which means calcium has been put on the back-burner for a bit.  It shouldn't be.  Calcium is so important and really shouldn't be taken lightly for anyone (age, gender, or race).  Ca deficiency can lead to lots of problems which this article touches on. Granted, calcium needs vitamin D to work properly and with vigor, but I think many people are leaving Ca out of the picture.  I'm not talking about people who have just switched from cow's milk to almond milk or rice milk.  They have just as much or sometimes more Ca than cow's milk.   I'm talking about the rebels who when they hit college, went AWOL on milk-all! They stopped drinking milk, started eating cheese whiz or cheese dip from the Mexican restaurant, and the most green they saw were a Heineken bottle or well, grass.  Not to mention all the alcohol that inhibits the absorption of a lot of vitamins and minerals.  Hence the wonderful feeling in the morning or at the end of a long weekend.  It just spirals for some after college.  Others, not many, start eating a little healthier.

Milk with dinner is no longer and the saying: "Drink your milk, then you'll be strong.", is more like "Drink your milkshake with your oversized chocolate chip cookie, then you'll be overweight." I'm not going to get on my American's are overweight-rant, just yet.  My point is Ca is in more than just milk. Now that people aren't drinking it anymore, they don't know that they can get Ca in other foods besides milk...dried herbs being one! Wow. Come on UGA, where were you on teaching me that one. This is a great article that sums up the best foods high in Ca.  Also, search the site for top veggies and fruits with calcium.
